Project Under the Sea (Collection #10)

Project Run & Play has curated another collection of patterns just in time for summer! “Project Under the Sea” includes pants/shorts, tops, dresses/skirts, swimsuits, adorable sea-themed plushies, digital design package and a simple “Seashell Satchel” (which is free with the purchase of any other pattern – just use the code SEASHELLS at checkout)! You can purchase individual patterns from the collection, or grab the whole bundle for a better savings HERE.

Sofiona was pleased to be able to contribute two of our popular swim patterns to this collection. Both the Minnow and Pike swimsuits will now also be available in the PR&P store. Grab Minnow HERE, or Pike HERE.

My older daughter was in need of bigger sizes for her summer wardrobe this year so this was a great opportunity to sew up a new Minnow Swimsuit for her. Fabric and Flow has put together a number of great swim kits this spring. If you haven’t seen these yet they’re a great way to get a curated collection of solids and/or prints, swim lining and rubber swim elastic all in one quick and easy bundle! As one of the sponsors for the Project Under the Sea Lookbook, they generously donated the “Nikki” swim kit for me to try out. I easily got the Minnow swimsuit from the fabric provided and have enough left over to make something for my other daughter as well. The only thing I needed to supplement was some more elastic (since the Minnow does use quite a bit with all the straps/two piece suit option). You can browse all of their amazing collections HERE!

Once we knew what pattern and what fabrics we’d be working with I got my daughter to help me plan out her suit. We agreed about almost all the piecing and colour options. The only stand out was the accent on the bottoms. I liked the blue (because…..well…..I like blue) and she wanted the pink. Of course I made the pink for her, and it really does look great on there!

And the final result! We both love the coverage this suit gives. My girl always opts for the flounce option and the optional angled colour blocking that extends into the flounce is one of my favourite features, so of course we went with that. Not included in the pattern, but a simple hack, were the added foam cups I included for her. Before closing up the suit I just had her try it on and pinned the cups between the main and lining layers. I then sewed them to just the lining and continued on as usual from there.

Of course at Sofiona another one of our favourite things to do is add some fun back details and this suit does not dissapoint!
